Graduate Students

I earned my Bachelor's degree in Environmental Biology and Ecology in Spring 2019 and joined the lab as a graduate student the following Fall. My research focus is microplastics in freshwater systems, specifically, the development of unified protocols to investigate questions relevant to microplastics from an ecosystem perspective. I am currently working with sediment and water samples from the Yadkin-Peedee watershed as well as freshwater mussels found in this system. In addition to my own work, I have been able to assist on several projects led by former graduate students including river surveys for mussels, fish, and hellbenders, as well as river sediment freeze core sampling. I have also been an instructor for the General Biology program at Appalachian State for several years, and have a broad knowledge of many biological and ecological subjects from my time as a student and an instructor.
